David Maass Joins SMI as Senior Advisor

David Maass

David Maass has joined Strategic Marketing Innovations (SMI) as a Senior Advisor. Mr. Maass combines a marketing and engineering background with more than 30 years experience in business development in aerospace, defense and energy markets. He is currently President of Flightware, a business development consulting firm he established in 1991, whose clients include small businesses, multinational firms and the US Government.

"David’s extensive experience in identifying, developing and tracking new business opportunities in the aerospace, defense and energy markets will greatly serve SMI clients," says Ted Lynch, President of SMI. "His understanding of both marketing and engineering will be an invaluable asset to SMI; we are thrilled to welcome him to our growing team."

Previously, Mr. Maass served as Business Development Manager for Dow-UT, a joint venture of United Technologies and the Dow Chemical. In addition, he founded Advanced Composite Products (ACP), a company specializing in the application of tubular composite structures for aerospace applications on the B2 and spacecraft flight hardware.

Mr. Maass also held several engineering positions at Sikorsky Aircraft including Engineering Manager of the Army's UH-60 Composite Rear Fuselage Man-Tech program. As a Materials engineer, he was responsible for FAA certification of the composite materials allowables and associated database for the S-76 helicopter and a Structures Engineer who performed FEA of composite rotor components.

Mr. Maass holds BS and MS degrees in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT and has published numerous papers through AIAA, SAMPE, SME, IEPS, various Government/Industry Reviews and contributed articles in the Electronic Packaging and Production and Avionics magazines.
